GM Egypt Statement regarding the Chevrolet Optra
We would like to respond to certain misperceptions which have been raised by various parties relating to the Chevrolet Optra.
The popular Chevrolet Optra which is sold in the Egyptian market is manufactured at SGMW in China, a joint venture operation between General Motors, SAIC and Wuling Motors. Last year the Joint Venture sold more than 3.5 million vehicles in the Chinese market under the Boajun, Chevrolet, Buick and Cadillac brands.
All vehicles produced by the Joint Venture are built in accordance with General Motors’ Global Manufacturing Standards, ensuring that all vehicles, regardless of which country they are sourced from, are of the same high quality standards.
General Motors, as a leading global automotive company, offers a wide portfolio products which are retailed under various brands, as appropriate by market. In line with our brand strategy for the Egyptian market, we launched the Optra under our Chevrolet brand. At the time of launch we transparently communicated the source of production for the vehicle. It has been pleasing to see how positively Egyptian customers have responded to the new Optra with sales meeting our expectations.
We, together with our sole distributor Al Mansour, would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers for the high value and confidence which they place in the brands and products which we sell in the Egyptian market.
